Dhauli Giri Hills

  8 kms south of Bhubaneswar Centre, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, 751001, India

The famous site of the Kalinga Battle, Dhauli Giri Hills is now a place of utter peace, housing a Shanti Stupa. The place is mainly known for King Ashoka's Rock Edicts, that contain his concerns about the welfare of the world as well his thoughts on Buddhism. It is commonly believed that seeing the nearby Daya River turn red with the blood of the killed soldiers during the Kalinga battle, bought about the emperor's change of heart.
